My baby Sis Gets Engaged

Even though im the oldest of the 3 Weatherall’s, it was never gonna be me.!

But just the other week Billy, my sisters boyfriend, did the deed and dropped a knee on her.

CONGRATS

P.S. Billy, now you can look forward to a life full of pranks and smart ass comments from the two older brothers…  Don’t say I didn’t warn ya… hahahaha.

Got back to Oceanside California and with no time to spare Neil wanted to put the finishing touches on the Firsthand episode.

I was super motivated to try and get a backflip on my dirt bike done for the show, and seeing as its been a while since I last did one to dirt I thought I’d need to spend a little time in the foam pit.  So I rang Maddo and Renner to see if I could come jump with them.

As the boys were training for X Games it seemed like the perfect time… But, It wasn’t ment to be.

I met the boys out at Pala where Renner has his compound set up, and we spent a little while jumping into the pit, but before I really got comfortable, Maddo threw his shoulder out, which really ended the session as he had to go take care of it.

Time was up for deadline filming so unfortunately we didn’t get the parting shot I wanted.

Next time, I guess.

Visa

The most stressful thing about living in the USA for an international athlete has to be gaining the right Visa to make sure your ass doesn’t get deported.

Coming here is easy but staying here legally and working is a whole different ball game!  Coming in and out of the USA on a tourist visa used to be my worst night mare.  You’d here such crazy stories of people being denied or deported, I’ve even had a few friends not allowed in the country, even for silly mix ups that weren’t their fault.

This past year I met Becky Mendoza through a friend, I soon came to find out she was a immigration lawyer that helps action sports athletes out with this process.

After using a lawyer a few years ago in New York I was dreading the process cause I’d had a nightmare the first time.

Well lets just say this time round was a dream!  Becky helped me through it all and now im sorted with a P-1!

So if anyone out there ever needs Visa’s done, look up Becky Mendoza with the Action Sports Law Group.  Cause she’s the best there is!

The Bombing Range

We just got back up to Auckland and had one day left with Neil before he headed back.  I’d been telling him about this place on the west coast that has some awesome sand dunes to ride bikes in ,so I called up some of my best mates back home and organized a truck and some bikes.  We met up with Jimmy, Hayden and Lee at 6am, so we could make a run in the truck some 40 minutes drive up the beach to beat the high tide.

We made it to the  riding spot called the ‘bombing’ range,  and set ourselves up.  With no one else around and 1000’s of acres of sand dunes to ride, we were all in heaven: shredding big sand bowls 5th gear pinned, or finding new lines and jumps.  It’s endless fun.

Nothing makes it better though than being there with your best mates.

Cheers boys for the good times.

Ballistics Wakeboard Camp

With 6 days left to film for my Firsthand before Neil left back for California, I still had a ton of stuff I wanted to fit in.

Brendon Ellis and Callum Farquharson joined us on this leg of the trip and brought along there brand new EPIC boat for us to ride behind…

For the next four days we chilled at the Ballistics Wakeboard Camp and rode on Lake Ohakuri, one of my favourite spots in the world to ride.   I don’t know anywhere else in the world were you can ride on such an amazing lake, with no one else aroun, and when your finished riding you can drive your boat into the hot springs to chill and drink some cold beers with the crew.

New Zealand Nationals

With my entourage in tow we headed north to the New Zealand Nationals…

I love coming back for this event, its always such a good time to come back to the scene that first got me my start.  Being able to catch up with so many friends and family and people that have supported my career is really awesome.

As usual the Pairere area turned it on and there were perfect conditions all week.

Finals day was upon us and I felt really good and confident that I’d take home another win, but as fate would have it that wouldn’t be the case.  A couple of mistakes in my run put me into a 2nd place finish.  It’s so crazy just how quickly things can change in a contest.  All good, Nic Gibson took 1st place.

Newcastle WQS

After making some mistakes at the Burleigh Classic and letting a fuckin’ pushy Brazilian snake me, I was more than ready to have another crack at the WQS in Newcastle.

My bro Greg and I travelled down in our van, slept in it over night and woke up to 1-2ft waves.

They decide to run the contest…not stoked!  I get busy at the start of the heat and got a couple of OK scores, but two of the 90lb juniors set about tearing the tiny waves to pieces and that was the end of that for me.

Greg went out in his heat and it was pretty much flat for the entire heat.  He got one score but couldn’t back it up to stay in contention.

That’s surf comps for ya though. Can’t make the waves come to ya.

Its been a learning process, but stoked to be on the QS having a crack as both my bro and I have dreamed of doing it ever since we were tiny grommets…

New Zealand Take Two…

Neil & I flew to Queenstown and met up with Josh Robinson from Sideswipe Productions and Brad Smeele.  Our plan was to hit a private rail park called ‘Dick’ Park near Wanaka, and then head up the country a little to some of New Zealands most pristine glacier lakes.

Despite crazy mountain weather and super cold conditions we had killer time at both spots and I got to take the boys for there first bunny killing experience.  They were all super pumped.   We got some killer footage of the shooting, but Fuel tv cut it from the show.  I thought it was the best stuff we got, but apparently it was too gruesome for the American public.

Road Trip with the Boys

I wanted to get all the Aussie boys together for a classic road trip.  Scotty and Deano had already headed to the states, but I managed to round up Watkins, Ike, Brenton P, Jamie Brooks, Rubber Johnny and my bro up for a trip up to the Sunny Coast to have a private session at Bli Bli Cable Park, then up to Hervey Bay to check out Stoneys Rail Park.

Epic day.. loaded up the Trucks at 5am and headed up to Bli Bli.  We had an all time morning session there with no one but ourselves at the park.

We hit lunch at the beach, the trekked another 2 hours north to Hervey Bay to check out Stoneys Rail Park.

So this guy in the middle of no where has set up this all time rail park in his back yard, complete with winches and all sorts of crazy lines and rails.  We all sessioned till dark and then made the long 4 hour drive home.

Check the vid.
